Pant Glas Bach Preserves - Homemade Jams and Chutneys - The Rewards of Patience

News  - 2010

July 2010 - The black currants are (nearly) ready for picking in the next couple of days and we should be back up and running with the Blackcurrant & Liquorice Jam.  We have had a good weekend with 'the Twig' and picked a serious amount of gooseberries.  He has also accepted a guest gig at the Denbigh and Flint show this year.

Coed y Brenin visitor centre has now started to stock a selction of our products.  Coed y Brenin is home to some of the finest mountain biking in the UK with waymarked technical trails and a newly opened family route, all based from the Visitor Centre at Dolgefeilliau.

We have just started to pick some blackcurrants at the Erlas Victorian Walled Garden (Registered Charity 1131830) and are using them in our jams.

June 2010 - The rhubarb is doing well and we think it is down to the really good frost we had for most of the winter.  This years Rhubarb and Ginger jam tastes excellent and is well up to standard.  The soft fruits look a little behind schedule but we think we will get some good crops out in the summer, but please can we have a bit more rain.

Trials of our new Blackcurrant and Liquorice Jam have gone very well and we have now started selling this with high expectation that it will be a hit.  The first two batches have sold out very quickly and we are now awaiting this years blackcurrants to ripen as we have now run out.

We have just completed a bee keeping course and have taken delivery of our first colony of bees.  May have some honey in 2011 but we are hoping that the bees will help to pollinate our fruit and veg crops going forward.

May 2010 - We are pleased that Morgans Pori Gwych, an award winning local butcher, deli, post office et al in the neighbouring village of Caerwys has now started to stock our products.  As a chef, Andrew from the shop, is keen to get involved advising us on recipes etc.  For the shop details please visit www.morgansporigwych.co.uk

We are also pleased that the tea room at Bodelwyddan Castle Museum is now serving our chutneys and pickles as part of the main menu.

Feb 2010 - The snow eventually cleared and we were able to get 'the factory' up and running.  We have had to start from scratch as we sold out in the run up to christmas, so we apologise to anyone disappointed.  We will try and make more for next year (which is actually this year now).  The snow and ice has also put a delay on the work outside but we are moving ahead with that now and planning the plantings for the coming weeks.  Bad news, 'The Twig' has got himself a real job and will not be helping me this year, unless we can persuade him to do a guest 'gig' for us.

Mar 2010 - The first crops are now in the ground and we are trying to balance the inside and outside work with all the other things that need to be done but we are coping.  The recent rain was useful as it helped water the broad beans and garlic in.  We want to get the parsnips in soon as well as the onion sets.
